  • Dr. Shelly Self

    When you meet Dr. Self and see her fun bubbly personality there will be no question why she became a pediatric dentist. She is passionate about providing quality dental care in a fun and loving environment and she believes that every child should have a positive dental experience. Dr. Self is an advocate for parent education and caries prevention and her goal is to create a lifelong relationship with every patient.

    Dr. Self has lived all over the world and had the opportunity to meet many different people and visit many beautiful places which truly gives her a broad perspective of life. She is fluent in Italian, Spanish and Hebrew and also speaks some Arabic. She began her educational journey in Rome, Italy where she earned an international baccalaureate degree with disciplines in math, science and art having had the opportunity to study the work of Michael Angelo and the Sistine chapel for her thesis.

    Dr. Self then moved to the states to study Dentistry where she graduated at the top of her class with a Bachelors of Science in Medical Biology from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She continued her trend to travel and went to the Midwest to attend Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio where she was awarded the Doctorate of Medical Dentistry with honors. Upon graduating with her D.M.D. degree Dr. Self completed a general practice residency at the Louis Stokes VA Hospital before moving to Redmond Washington. There, she worked as a public health dentist and discovered her passion to provide dental care to her little friends.

    Dr. Self completed her two year pediatric dental residency at the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she received extensive training in advanced diagnostic and child-related pharmacology, along with child psychology and clinical management. During her residency she also received advanced training in oral pathology, child development, management of oral/facial trauma, care for patients with special needs, conscious sedation and general anesthesia. Upon graduating as a Pediatric Dental Specialist she then went on to join the ranks of other distinguished pediatric specialists by becoming board certified. Certification by the American Board of Pediatrics signifies a high degree of physician competence and dedication to the highest level of professionalism and interest in the health and welfare of children and adolescents.

    Pediatric Dentist Dr. Shelly Self with her kidsDr. Self and her husband McKinley, who is a general dentist and grew up in Olympia, are happy to have returned home to Washington State. They make their home on the Kitsap peninsula with their two children Ben and Julia and their two cats Leo and Norah. In her spare time Dr. Self loves to spend time with her family. She also enjoys kayaking, camping, biking, cooking, watching movies and of course travelling.

    Dr. Self holds a sedation license as well as dental licenses in Washington and Nevada.

  • Dr.
    McKinley Self

    Dr. Mac practices patient focused comprehensive dentistry. He supports his patients in maintaining their oral health and making educated decisions regarding their care.

    For his undergraduate studies Dr. Mac moved to Northern Utah and earned his BS from the University of Utah in Psychology and Biology. Dr. Mac received his dental (DMD) degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio serving as student body vice president and graduating with honors. Following graduation he completed a residency in Advanced Education of General Dentistry at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. After completing his training and practicing for several years, he took on the role of educator at University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine as Associate Professor. While there he was lecturer, national board examiner, preceptor and the lead professor for the student Dental clinics. Upon completion of his tenure he returned to Washington state to practice with Dr. Shelly.

    Dr. Mac grew up in Olympia Washington when the supersonics were champions, the Rainier Beer sign shone bright on the Seattle skyline and the Seahawks played in the Kingdome. The pacific northwest is home to him and he enjoys the nature, culture and food that it has to offer. In his spare time he likes to mountain bike, camp, kayak and cook great food with his children.

  • Dr.
    Kristina

    Dr. Kristina has been a memeber of the Poulsbo Kids and Family Dentistry team for over three years. She feels strongly that each family benefits from care that is individually tailored and built on a relationship of trust. She strives to listen to you and your child’s needs so that she can help your little ones achieve and maintain optimal oral health in a warm and friendly environment. 

    Dr. Kristina grew up in Massachusetts and graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Human Science from Georgetown University. While she was always drawn to a career in the dental field, it was during her subsequent years at The University of Maryland Dental School that she found her passion in working with children. This drive led her to pursue and complete her pediatric dental residency at the University of Connecticut. Soon after, she obtained board certification from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. While her formal schooling is finished, she maintains that her education will never end. In fact, she is constantly searching for new classes to take and articles to read so as to be well-versed in the latest evidence-based materials and techniques. 

    Dr. Kristina is an active member of the American Dental Association, Washington State Dental Association, and the Seattle Pediatric Dentistry Study Club.

    Dr. Kristina is happy to have made the Pacific Northwest her home. While not in the office, you can find Dr. Kristina riding her bike, hiking in the beautiful mountains nearby, or relaxing on her porch with a good book. 

  • Michelle
    Hygienist

    Michelle has been a dental hygienist since 2008. She has as associate degree in dental hygiene from Yakima Valley Community College. She loves building relationships with her patients and helping them achieve their dental goals.

    She grew up on the Olympic Peninsula and has lived in Poulsbo with her husband and kids since 2010.  When she is not taking care of her patients, she is spending time with her family, watching her kids play sports, enjoying the outdoors and looking for adventures.
